Chile and Colombia Move Against Digital Payment Fraud
Chile reported nearly $100 million in banking fraud, while Bogotá warned of fake payment messages. Brazil also saw sharp increases.

What fraud signals did Chilean banks detect?
The same report, cited by Emol, said fraud rates on debit cards at Chilean banks rose from 0.04% to 0.07% between the first half of last year and the same period in 2026. On credit cards, the fraud rate was 0.14% of transacted amounts in the first half of 2026.
What happened in Brazil?
In Brazil, BioCatch reported that the country logged 2,261,055 fraud cases in 2025, an average of 258 per hour, and that reported fraud has grown by almost 430% since 2018. The company added that its customers in Brazil reported roughly a 140% increase in impersonation scams and about a 340% rise in fraud linked to stolen mobile phones.
What did Bogotá warn about digital payments?
In Colombia, Bogotá’s District Security Secretariat warned about a digital fraud scheme in which scammers send messages about a "pending payment" or "pending transfer" that lead to a fake page designed to steal information and access accounts.
The official alert recommended not opening suspicious links and checking financial notifications directly in the official Nequi, Davivienda, or Bancolombia apps, or through their formal channels.
A report by HSB Noticias also said that more than 300,000 complaints over digital fraud were filed in Colombia’s financial system during the first half of 2025.
That same report identified phishing, smishing, vishing, deepfakes, and SIM swapping as the main methods, and said banks are strengthening multi-factor authentication against those attacks.
